December 15, 2008

Ella passed away today and has crossed the Rainbow Bridge to be with her other feline friends who left before her. After a long fight with many illnesses and being brave with her feeding tube, Ella went into renial failure. She spent 3 amazing years with us, and she was with us in the end in our arms and is now buried in our meadow with her feline friend Piper, he was our 6 month old feral kitten who passed away this August. We are VERY sad right now and in shock I guess, all the cats are too. We all lost a member of our family and Ella will never be forgotten. Through all her pain she was the sweetest, happiest most loving cat and was loved by all her feline companions and without a doubt loved tremendously by us. Thank you for all your positive thoughts and notes, help with her medical bills, and prayers we appreciate all the support we received.
hugs,
Kim, Liz and Ella's feline family too

WE NEED YOU

Ella is being as sweet and brave as ever. She had another EKG and Ultrasound on 6-19-08 and is going in for another procedure called a Nasal Flush on 7-10-2008. This will allow the vets to analyze the discharge coming out of her nose and the nasal drip that is causing her so much discomfort. We are going to attempt this first and see how it goes. ANY donation of any kind will help us a great deal in contnuing the life long care of this super sweet kitty who had the unfortunate luck of being previously in the hands of a horrible hoarder. Now she is loved SOOO much, we raised 3,000 last year for her major surgery I know we can make $350. Thanks for your help as always.

Much Love,

Kim, Liz and all the kitties ESPECIALLY...Ella!

Feb 6,2008 update

Yum-Yum is no longer under any medical care, she has been discharged from Dr. Deforge and is now only taking her mouth medicine twice a day and is doing well.

Ella is doing so-so, she has 4 teeth left and is taking her mouth medicine twice a day like her pal Yummy and her heart med each day too. She will have another EKG in another couple months and we are looking into some alternative Eastern medicine to address her chronic upper respitory issues which are a main concern right now.

We continue to pay Care Credit bills and other credit card bills on Yum Yum and Ella, but it has come down a little bit. Thanks to all who have and continue to donate to the Yum-Yum and Ella fund, EVERYTHING COUNTS BELIEVE US!, as you all know the bills are HUGE and the condo is STILL up for sale and has been for almost 10 months. We know there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we are looking forward to getting there.
Lots of Love
Kim, Liz, Yum-Yum, Ella and their siblings too =)

Most recent Ella update on surgery information

Most recent Ella update and recap on surgery info
ELLA:Ella has successfully completed major oral surgery by Dr. DeForge at Silver Sands Veterinary Clinic and was released into our care on August 7, 2007. All teeth except #304 #404 and #104/204 have had to be sacrificed because they were involved in advanced sclerosing osteomyelitis. Her Feline Bartonella Test was a +1. Her basis diagnosis was end stage Advanced Periodontitis with multiple areas of sclerosing osteomyelitis and root abscessation. She under went the following: Digital Oral X-ray Diagnostics Osteoplasty based on digital oral x-ray diagnostics Exodontics based on digital oral x-ray diagnostics with full thickness mucoperiosteal flap surgery Guided tissue regeneration with bone alloplast (bone augmentation/grafting) Ella went for her recheck on 9-10-07 and she was given general inhalation anesthesia-analgesia with Dr. DeForge in order to remove sutures and check the bone grafting sites, and evaluate the Stomasurgery healing process. She is doing very well. Now we are concentrating on her URI and its chronic nature. The chronic respiratory infection is a concern and we were told to seek out a consultation from a specialist in Norwalk who will then consult with Dr DeForge. We are also going to consult with two other doctors, Dr. Lindsay in North Andover and Dr. Lambert here in CT and a close friend of Petals. The suggestion thus far is to have a transtracheal wash â?? cytology, culture and sensitive secretions conducted in order to determine actual cause of the chronic URI condition. So far Ella has been much better in terms of her overall cooperation with her daily medications (5 meds some twice a day) in the morning and evening, as many of you know who have worked with Ella she is NOT a fan of meds and will let you know it in every possible way that she can. We have gotten past the initial â??spazzing outâ?? resulting in one or both of us bleeding and begging her to just take the med for her own benefit. Lol. She is so loving and sweet that it is difficult to get annoyed with her, and she is always rubbing on you, giving kisses and â??tryingâ?? to meow the best she can. In time we are confident she will become used to some of her meds, she has the life long heart meds and oral rinses ahead of her. Her and Yum-Yum are best friends...good thing since both of them spend a good part of the day getting their meds together Lol. Presently (11-04-07) Ella is STILL fighting her URI and chronic congestion, nose discharge and sneezing. In the meantime she is still on her pulsing medications from her previous surgery. We are monitoring her progress in all areas VERY closely and have not yet heard back from the other vets regarding her case, with the exception of Dr. Lindsay who has been assisting us at this time, along with the continued care of Dr. Donald DeForge and his clinic. We just want to thank ALL of you who have helped make this possible and Ella thanks you too. Without the donations we received we would not have gotten this far. We will keep you posted on her progress and any donations will be welcomed for the remaining medical costs to address her chronic URI and her 6-month review of her last 4 teeth. We have created this site to replace The Firstgiving Site which was originally at www.firstgiving.com/KimandLizhelpElla. The Firstgiving site will be gone as of January 2008. This Chip-in site will allow us to receive FULL funds and not have to pay out a portion to a site. We need all the funds we can get lol.Again we thank you all so much for caring and sending your positive thoughts and prayers our way. You all know how much ALL our cats mean to us and that each of their medical, behavioral and emotional conditions are very different, as well as their levels of care, yet we love them ALL unconditionallyâ?¦and now we know just how much others do too. Thanks again.

Yum-Yum's surgery and our need for funds to pay vet bills

Yum-Yum's surgery and our need for funds to pay vet billsYum-Yum has been recovering from her surgery for almost 7 months. As most of you know we took out TWO LARGE loans to save our beautiful Yum-Yum's life...and we would do it again if need be. We are presently trying to rasie some funds in order to pay back those loans. Yum-Yum is doing well and as of this month (November 2007) she has been taken off her pulsing medications and now is on oral rinse, pet tonic and lacto baccillis only. She has had a LONG road to recovery and is getting stronger each day. She plays with the other cats, has learned to eat without any teeth and is as cute and fresh as every. Her next check up with Dr. Donald DeForge is on November 10,2007. He will see if her bartonella rating has lowered since the surgeries and treatments, she was at a +4 the highest you can be when she was initially brought to him. Yum-Yum will turn 3 in February of 2008 and we anticipate MANY years of happiness with our feline companion. Her and Ellla are best friends and were adopted from the same rescue shelter in New Hampshire and they have every intention of living out LONG happy lives together in our home.
Again we will keep you all posted on their progress and thank you again for all your support.
